2018 SMSW DEVELOPMENT PLAN AND CALENDAR
Please note:
changes to the Area Age groups – ie METRO SOUTH WEST CHAMPIONSHIPS
12 – 13 year old male and female swimmers can only compete in one Area Championships per season
· E.g. If a swimmer is 12yrs old and doesn’t age up till after the Australian Age Championships (turns 13 after 15 April, 2019) then Swimming NSW recommends that they participate in the Junior Area Championships.
· E.g. If a swimmer ages up and is eligible to compete at the 2019 Australian Age Championships then Swimming NSW recommends that they participate in the Senior Area Championships.
Note: Ultimately it is up to the Swimmer, their Coach and their parent/guardian(s) about which stream is best for them.
If you compete in the Senior Area Championships, and then enter the second Junior Area Championships, YOUR ENTRIES WILL BE WITHDRAWN AND NO REFUND WILL BE GIVEN. All entrants into the Junior Area Championships will be checked. (Even though the Online Entry system will "let you" enter both - the rules state that you cannot enter both).
changes to NSW STATE AGE – METROPOLITAN AND STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
· 12 – 13 year old male and female swimmers can only compete in one Metropolitan Area & SNSW State Age Championships per season
o E.g. If a swimmer is 12yrs old and doesn’t age up till after the Australian Age Championships (turns 13 after 15 April, 2019) then Swimming NSW recommends that they follow the Junior State Stream (as outlined below).
o E.g. If a swimmer ages up and is eligible to compete at the 2019 Australian Age Championships then Swimming NSW recommends that they follow the Australian Age Stream (as outlined below).
Note 1: Once a Swimmer selects either the Australian Age Stream or the Junior State Stream and swims at their first Championship event, they must stay in that stream for the duration of the season.
Note 2: Ultimately it is up to the Swimmer, their Coach and their parent/guardian(s) about which stream is best for them.
Note 3: If you compete in the first age group, the Senior State Stream, and then enter the second Junior State Stream, YOUR ENTRIES WILL BE WITHDRAWN AND NO REFUND WILL BE GIVEN. All entrants into the Junior State Stream will be checked. (Even though the Online Entry system will "let you" enter both - the rules state that you cannot enter both)
Rationale: With the 10/U-12 Years State Age Championships being previously held in December & January and these swimmers now not being eligible to compete at the National Age Championships, the swimming season is effectively over for those athlete’s mid-way through the season. This change extends the season for these swimmers until the end of March giving them more opportunities to qualify for the State Age Championships. This change also creates separate Metropolitan and State Age Championship events for these swimmers which will reduce time constraints at these events, which means Swimming NSW can allow more swimmers to compete at these events.

Congratulations to the selected athletes who have been afforded this opportunity. Athletes will be required to complete skill testing, development day programs, camps etc. as outlined in the respective squad itinerary. The intent of each squad level is for progression of the athletes within the region and for solid co-operation, work ethics, focus and aim. It is understood that all athletes must endorse, pay levies, and attend all sessions of their particular squad to be eligible to receive SMSW Merchandise and apparel.
Information is available on SMSW website and it is suggested that all invitees download the Athlete’s letter together with the medical consent and code of conduct forms plus the relevant squad invitation.
A response is required to be registered on behalf of each squad selected athlete to indicate their intention to attend the activities that are scheduled for the relevant squad itinerary. NOTE: There are limited places available. Should acceptance not be received by the due date, the athlete will forfeit their place and a reserve athlete will be sent an invitation to attend.
D squad camp is scheduled to be held on the weekend of Friday 5th to Sunday 7th August 2016 at the Sydney Academy of Sport, Narrabeen. Athletes attending this development camp may request consideration from SMSW to be collected from camp on the morning of Sunday, 7th August to enable their participation in the NACSC qualifying meet @ SOPAC that is scheduled on this date.
Note: Saturday, 12th & Sunday, 13th November 2016 are the nominated dates for SMSW Long Course Championships to be held at SOPAC.
